Designing a 0 -> 1 robust maternal health product for Black women
Saved lives: A woman tracked high blood pressure, and was able to use the app to advocate for the care she needed
2nd place Core77 Design Award
100 NPS
100 Births across 26 states
As the Founding Designer, I led design strategy and art direction across 2 external partner agencies, defined the design vision for the product and its integration with the kit, conducted research sprints, and owned all final design decisions and high fidelity polish. In close collaboration with industrial designers at Leadoff Studio, the design of the kit was completed just a few months after launch of the app.
Black women are 2x more likely to die during childbirth due to healthcare bias. The market lacked apps combining physical vital monitoring with culturally-competent support for Black women; This gap in the market gave us an opportunity to create a product that identified common maternal morbidities, saved lives, and provided supplemental virtual support.

The biggest challenge on this project was building a healthcare product that neeed to work seamlessly with medical devices, and use the right messaging to reduce or prevent medical anxiety. This required close collaboration with the clinical team, the product manager, marketing, engineers and partnerships with external agencies on the design of the kit and early app concepts.
We had to get it right, because healthcare products can impact lives.
The impact was real for Spora Mommas — the app, kit, and program helped save a pregnant woman's life by empowering her to self-advocate for necessary care.
And post-launch, the app achieved a perfect 100 NPS score, supported 100 births across 26 states, and the kit won a Core 77 Design Award. Every design decision balanced user needs, clinical safety, technical feasibility, and business goals to create a genuinely life-saving product.
