Health
Improving maternal health outcomes with a companion app and kit.
Spora Health was a seed-stage startup reducing health inequities by matching patients with culturally-competent providers for Black people. Spora Mommas was a comprehensive program and companion app helping pregnant Black women monitor vitals at home, connect with community, and receive personalized doula support. As solo designer on a lean team, I led design strategy and art direction for 2 external agencies and was responsible for all design decisions with an aggressive 3-month zero-to-one timeline.

Births across 26 statesOpportunity
Black women are 2x more likely to die during childbirth due to healthcare bias. The market lacked apps combining physical vital monitoring with culturally-competent support for Black women. This was an opportunity to create a product that identified morbidities, saved lives, and provided supplemental virtual support.
Challenge
Building a healthcare product integrating medical devices with mobile app required perfect execution because it could literally save lives. I partnered with external agencies, like industrial designers at Leadoff Studio, while leading internal design strategy across clinicians, engineers, and product to ensure high quality deliverables in a tight timeline.
